Cameroon: COMIFAC gets new Acting President

Under the high patronage of His Excellency Mr. Paul BIYA, President of the Republic of Cameroon, the tenth ordinary session of the Council of Ministers of the Central African Forest Commission (COMIFAC) took place on 11 July 2019 in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
The session was preceded on 9 and 10 July 2019 by the Experts’ meeting.
Ministers, Ambassadors and Plenipotentiary ambassadors from the following member countries took part in the deliberations: Burundi, Cameroon, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Chad and Sao Tome and Principe. Angola participated as an observer.
Other participants included representatives of the following sub-regional institutions, international organizations and donors: ECCAS, COMIFAC, CEMAC, OCFSA, CEFDHAC, REPAR, REFADD, REJEFAC, SEEAC, RERAC, WWF, the Belgian Facilitation/CBFP, IUCN, AFD, CIFOR, ADB, GFBC, GIZ, ERUDeF, AWF, USAID/USFS, Afrique Environnement, JICA and the UNDP.
The official opening ceremony was punctuated by five speeches: delivered by Mr. Gilbert TSIMI EVOUNA, Government Delegate to the Yaoundé Urban Council, Mr. Maxime NZITA NGANGA Di MAVAMBU, representative of the Facilitator of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership, Mr. Tabu Abdallah MANIRAKIZA, deputy Secretary General of the Economic Community of Central African States, His Excellency Mr. Vincent BIRUTA, Minister of Environment of the Republic of Rwanda and Acting President of COMIFAC and the opening speech delivered by His excellency Mr. Joseph Dion NGUTE, Prime Minister, Head of Government of the Republic of Cameroon.
Following the opening speech, the Acting Chairmanship was officially handed over to Mr. Vincent BIRUTA, Minister of the Environment of the Republic of Rwanda and his colleague Mr. Jules Doret NDONGO, Minister of Forests and Wildlife of the Republic of Cameroon.
After the opening ceremony, the quorum was called and once it was established, the draft agenda was adopted.
