Press coffee: the media involved in the promotion of Cancun and Nagoya recommendations in Bujumbura
About twenty journalists were involved in intensive exchanges with the COMIFAC Executive Secretary, CBFP Facilitator and the Minister of Water, Environment, Planning and Urban Affairs (MEEATU). These exchanges centred on “real and potential advantages to be gained from Cancun/Nagoya decisions”
Bujumbura, 25 May 2011 - (Image credits: Athanase Karayenga and Martin Normandeau) Alongside the REDD+/Nagoya day agenda, a Press coffee was organised and brought together the various media: radio, television and print, both public and private, at the Bujumbura Safari Gate hotel. Under the auspices of Burundi’s Minister of Water, Environment, Planning and Urban Affairs (MEEATU), the “Press Coffee” was jointly organised by the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP) Facilitation and the MEEATU of Burundi.
This press briefing exchanges were based on three major themes aimed at improving the level of involvement and internalisation by the Burundi public of the real and potential advantages to be gained from Cancun/Nagoya decisions:
♦ Opportunity for Burundi of the CBFP REDD+/Nagoya day of du 25 May 2011 and the 9th CBFP Regional Advisory Committee of 26 and 27 May 2011.
♦ Opportunities of the Congo Basin Forest Fund (CBFF) for Burundi
♦ State of Forests and the Environment in Burundi, strategic vision, positioning in the Congo Basin, and support from technical and financial partners.
The panel was made up of three personalities, ie His Excellency Jean Marie Nibirantije, Minister of Water, Environment, Planning and Urban Affairs (MEEATU), His Excellency Raymond MBITIKON, COMIFAC Executive Secretary and Mr Gaston Grenier, CBFP Facilitator.
