The 9th Workshop of the Working Group of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (WGCCD) of the COMIFAC member countries was held in N'Djamena (Chad) at the Mercure Hotel in Chari, from 6-7 July 2017, in preparation for the Conference of the Parties 13 to the UNCCD and to develop a common consensual sub- regional position on items on the agenda of the next CoP, scheduled for 6-16 September in Erdos, China.
Organized by the Executive Secretariat of COMIFAC, with financial support from GIZ through the COMIFAC support program, the workshop drew twenty (20) participants comprising appointed members of the COMIFAC WGCCD, including: i) UNCCD focal points of six COMIFAC member countries (Cameroon, Central African Republic, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Rwanda and Chad); ii) experts of the COMIFAC National Coordination of Chad; (iii) CBD and UNFCCC Focal Points from Chad; iv) the Executive Secretary and two experts from COMIFAC; and two representatives of the technical and financial partner, GIZ.
The main purpose of the workshop was to adopt a common sub-regional position on various items on the agenda of CoP13 to the UNCCD. The deliberations unfolded in four (04) main sessions, namely:
The opening ceremony session;
The introductory session;
The break-out group session as well as feedback in a plenary meeting;
And the closing session.
