COMIFAC countries together at COP 18 CITES: The CITES Secretary general, Ms Ivonne Higuero granted a high-level audience to Mr. Raymond Ndomba Ngoye, Executive Secretary of COMIFAC
The Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the International Trade In Endangered Species (COP18 CITES) also known as the World Wildlife Conference took place in Geneva in the Congress and Exhibition Center from 17-18 August 2019. The Executive Secretariat was represented at the Geneva meeting by Mr. Raymond Ndomba Ngoye, Executive Secretary and Mr. Chouaibou Nchoutpouen, Biodiversity Expert.

Geneva, Switzerland, 17-28 August 2019: The Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the International Trade In Endangered Species (COP18 CITES) held its 18th Meeting of Parties.
Audiences
The CITES Secretary General, Ms Ivonne Higuero, granted a high-level audience to Mr. Raymond Ndomba Ngoye, Executive Secretary of COMIFAC. Other participants included Mr.Edwad Van Asch Caballero, Project Manager of the International Consortium Against Wildlife Crime and Mr. Chouaibou Nchoutpouen, Biodiversity Expert.
The audience was centered around strengthening cooperation between the COMIFAC Executive Secretariat and the CITES Secretary General.
On 26 August 2019, Mr. Raymond Ndomba Ngoye received the delegation of the ten COMIFAC countries which took part in the Geneva deliberations.
For the record, the ten COMIFAC countries (Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Rwanda, Sao Tomé and Principe) have all subscribed/ratified to CITES and adopted national legislation to regulate the domestic and international trade in endangered wildlife species starting from the 1970s with the DRC for instance, ratifying it in 1976. The CAR and Cameroon subscribed to the convention in 1980 and 1981 respectively. By contrast, the Republic of Sao Tome and Principe only signed up recently in 2001
