In a bid to foster radio communication on climate change in the Congo Basin, CIFOR has published a guide to developing and monitoring & evaluation of radio broadcasting of political science dialogue. The paper presents the steps involved: the design, production, dissemination and evaluation of a radio program on climate change and forests of the Congo Basin.
To ease understanding of the process and for information accessibility, the document is broken down into four parts: planning, production, promotion/dissemination and evaluation. The experience of the COBAM radio program, broadcast from January 2013 to March 2014, in French, Lingala and Kituba Pidgin English shown here, aims to help anyone seeking to replicate the experience to draw on lessons learned.
The initiative does not seek to substitute the role of a broadcasting station, but aims to serve as an iterative process built on a participatory approach to communication on climate change, entailing both successes and failures.
The goal is to propose an approach based on collaboration and closer exchanges between scientists, policy makers, public and radio around the critical issues of climate disruptions, climate change and other scourges plaguing forests and making populations vulnerable.
