Welcome to our new partner, “Congolaise Industrielle des Bois (CIB) of Olam International!”
Congolaise Industrielle des Bois (CIB), a member of Olam International, has officially confirmed its adherence to the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP)
Ouesso (Republic of Congo), 3rd February 2012 - Congolaise Industrielle des Bois (CIB), a member of Olam International, has officially confirmed its wish to join the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP). To this effect, CIB undertook to respect the framework within which members of the CBFP cooperate, after firstly learning how it works.
La Congolaise Industrielle des Bois (CIB) is a Congo based industrial and commercial company dealing in forest management, the exploitation, transformation and marketing of tropical timber. This company, which was set up in Pokola in the North of the Congo Republic (Sangha Division) since 1968, is a pioneer in the sustainable management of tropical forests. By virtue of its efforts made counting from 1999, it is today (with 1.3 million hectares of natural forests in Congo) the largest tropical forest under exploitation to benefit from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) label.
CIB became a member of Singapore based OLAM Group in early 2011. Olam is a world leader in supply chain management for raw materials and agricultural products, including wood and food ingredients (http://olamonline.com/).
The Group hinges its development on a proactive environmental and social responsibility policy and a solid and meaningful commitment to its implementation. (http://olamonline.com/?s=media+centre+sustainability+report+2011)
Olam today manages one of the largest areas of natural tropical forests around the globe. It sustainably manages more than 2.2 million hectares in the Congo Basin. This responsible approach has led Olam to join the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) in the capacity of Institutional Member of the Economic Chamber. Thus CIB has, with the support of Olam, pursued its main objective of maintaining an eco-certified management of the forests under its charge. Both the results obtained this far and the company’s resolve to continue along the line of social and environmental responsibility, have only been possible and can only be maintained through synergetic exchanges with all the actors involved in seeking a sustainable future for the Congo Basin Forest.
“Welcome!” to our new private sector partner.
