21 to 22 November 2016, Kigali, Rwanda- The Sub-regional workshop on the non-timber forest products economy in Central Africa took place on the sidelines of the 16th Meeting of the Parties of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP). It was held as part of Stream 4, entitled "NTFPs, Economic development and the private sector ". Organized by the COMIFAC Executive Secretariat with FAO support via the Sub-regional project GCP/RAF/479/AFB "Strengthening the contribution of non-timber forest products to food security in Central Africa", the workshop was funded by the African Development Bank (ADB) through the Congo Basin Forest Fund (CBFF).
The overall aim of the workshop was to prepare decisions to be tabled to the 9th Session of the COMIFAC Council of Ministers, with a view to rallying high level political commitment to the development and promotion of the NTFPs economy in Central Africa. The sector’s growth would help diversify the States’ economies, develop handicrafts and small businesses, create jobs, increase revenues, and bolster food security and the nutritional status of communities within the framework of the green economy.
