Saturday, 2 November 2019, End and closing of the preparatory workshop of the 18 December Civil Society Day held within the framework of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP).

For five days, the civil society actors of the Central African sub-region together diagnosed the full range of issues affecting the environment and forest resources in the Congo Basin. Several themes were discussed such as forest conversion and the associated impacts, participatory forestry, climate change, REDD+ and carbon markets, land grab and securing the tenure rights of local and indigenous peoples, disaster management, transhumance, biodiversity and security, non-timber forest products and other emerging issues.

During the five-day discussions, the participants also put forward project ideas and position notes to be elaborated upon and presented on 18 December 2019 during the Civil Society Day.

It is worth noting that the issue of resource mobilization and autonomy of civil society was also discussed.

These themes will fuel discussions on 18 December with several partners participating in addition to the new CBFP Facilitation which will get an idea of emerging trends within civil society in the Basin.
