Board of Directors of the Foundation for the Tri-National Sangha (FTNS)

The 17^th meeting of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for the Tri-National Sangha (FTNS) - Sangha Tri-National Trust Fund Limited – was organized from 24 to 25 may 2016 in Brazzaville (Republic of Congo).

It was attended by eight directors (reached quorum), five staff of the Executive Board of the FTNS and an expert (financial advisor).

The discussions were very opened and constructive. The debates helped to formulate several recommendations to the Executive Board to improve the implementation of the financing of activities planned by the three national parks supported by the FTNS namely the Protected Areas of Dzanga-Sangha (CAR), the National Park of Nouabalé-Ndoki (Congo) and the National Park of Lobéké (Cameroon). The next Board of Directors of the FTNS will take place in Central African Republic in November 2016.

Development and institutionalization of a PAFC certification system for the Congo basin: opening of the second public consultation on Sustainable Forest Management Certification Standard, 23 May 2020 - 22 June 2020

These efforts go hand in hand with ensuring continued responsible management of natural resources and preventing unsustainably and illegally sourced forest commodities. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, forest-monitoring organisations Observatoire de la Gouvernance Forestière (OGF) and Réseau des observateurs indépendants des ressources naturelles (RENOI) are set to carry out COVID awareness-raising in at-risk forest areas, and will also assess COVID’s impact on forest management and governance commitments under the Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI). Across the Congo Basin, fears that a proper lack of oversight may put forests and forest peoples in danger are looming despite emerging initiatives.
