Carbon sequestration capacity of the Congo Basin second largest area of contiguous rainforest in the world, is expected to decline or might even be declining already – Urge for “call for Action” to Save The Congo Basin Rainforests!
The study points out also that currently the sequestration is bigger in Central Africa than in Amazonia. It stressed that in Central Africa, the sequestration capacity is going down. The study predicts that by 2030, the African jungle will absorb 14 percent less carbon dioxide than it did 10 to 15 years ago. That's bad for climate change. Showing that the situation is stressed the urgent call to save the Central Africa rainforests.

The Scientific Article – Nature: Asynchronous carbon sink saturation in African and Amazonian tropical forests: “Given that the global terrestrial carbon sink is increasing in size, independent observations indicating greater recent carbon uptake into the Northern Hemisphere landmass reinforce our conclusion that the intact tropical forest carbon sink has already peaked. This saturation and ongoing decline of the tropical forest carbon sink has consequences for policies intended to stabilize Earth’s climate.” Find out more…
