Africatime-A Summit on Lake Chad on 23 September in New York (United Nations)
A "special meeting" focusing on the Lake Chad Basin, home to Nigerian Islamist group BokoHaram but also an alleged victim of global warming will be held on 23 September in the wings of the United Nations General Assembly, a UN source told AFP on Thursday.
"It is a special meeting on the Lake Chad basin - which straddles the borders of Niger, Nigeria, Chad and Cameroon -that will be chaired by Ban Ki-Moon and attended by Presidents Muhammadu Buhari, (Nigeria), Idriss Deby (Chad), Mahamadou Issoufou (Niger) and Paul Biya (Cameroon)", said Toby Lanzer United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for the Sahel region, to AFP.
“Climate change, migration, and ongoing violence in the Lake Chad Basin", will be the main items on the meeting agenda, he said to AFP, at the end of a press conference in Niamey.
