COMIFAC GIZ pilot support initiatives for Central African indigenous and local populations
Douala, Cameroon, 07 - 11 May 2019 A workshop to present the pilot support initiatives of the regional GIZ project to support COMIFAC and Indigenous People and Local Communities (IPLC) and the 4th REPALEAC general assembly (network of Central African indigenous and local communities) took place at the Sawa Hotel.
It was attended by representatives of nine REPALEAC member countries including Burundi, Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Chad, COMIFAC, GIZ and the World Bank.
The meeting provided an opportunity to showcase the pilot initiatives, supplement them and discuss implementation strategies.
The network of Central African indigenous peoples receives assistance and support from the German Cooperation through the Regional Project to support COMIFAC, its national offices and its strategic plan for the sustainable development of indigenous peoples and local communities for the period 2018-2025.
The 1st phase ended during the 17th Meeting of Parties of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP). To support the implementation of REPALEAC’s strategic framework, GIZ elaborated on the COMIFAC Support Project for biodiversity conservation and forest governance.
