Experts representing countries engaged in REDD+ in Africa, meeting in Abidjan on 13 and 14 of August 2019, at the international workshop on the formulation of REDD+ project investments in Africa;
In the light of the last two IPCC Special Reports on the consequences of global warming of 1.5 ° C and on climate change, desertification, land degradation, sustainable land management, food security and greenhouse gas flows in terrestrial ecosystems;
Recognizing the fundamental role of forests in particular and the land-use sector in general, in the fight against global warming and the adverse effects of climate change;
Conscious of the commitments of States and the need for increased ambition to achieve the objectives of the Paris Agreement, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the African Union's Agenda 2063 and other relevant international Agreements and Conventions,
Commit:
-to set up a Forum on REDD+ Investments in Africa in order to accelerate the implementation of the REDD+ agenda;
- to create and maintain a Network of African REDD+ Experts with a view to continuing to exchange experiences and good practices and to assist countries in the process of project development;
- to advise African Representatives on the Green Climate Fund Board and other financial mechanisms in order to better take into account concerns of the implementation of REDD+ in Africa and thus ensure implementation of the “One Voice for Africa” directive.
