Fifteenth RRI Dialogue on Forests, Governance and Climate Change, The Newseum, Washington, D.C., USA

Organized by

The dialogue will take stock of two far-reaching developments in  global efforts to reduce
forest-based emissions:

1. The agreement reached on REDD+ at COP19 in Warsaw, and

2. International efforts to promote the establishment of forest carbon rights in forested countries.

The Warsaw agreement gave a burst of new energy to the REDD+ community, and the debate now shifts to what activities to prioritize, how to fund them, how to make real progress on the ground, and how to monitor compliance with safeguards. The question of how to establish carbon rights in countries where ownership over land and forests is already frequently contested and carbon legislation rare, is now being driven by the finalization of a carbon purchasing policy by the World Bank's Carbon Fund.

Discussion in this dialogue will include assessing the opportunities and challenges presented by these developments and priority steps  forward to ensure that the rights of Indigenous Peoples and other local communities are enhanced and safeguarded.

Upcoming Events

Currently there are no events.

This calendar is based on information provided by COMIFAC and the Franco-German support office is considered a complementary event schedule to the official calendar posted on COMIFAC's website. (http://www.comifac.org/events). It offers a broad overview of international and regional events that are directly linked to CBFP's objectives: major conferences and meetings, workshops and training sessions and other activities scheduled by CBFP Facilitation and its member organisations.

Our choice is by no means exhaustive and depends largely on our partners' notice. Every partner organisation is thus welcome to contribute to a rich variety of posted events and to share its schedule with CBFP's Facilitation and the other members! We may also, upon request, forward your input to the COMIFAC webmaster.
