The "Promotion of certified logging" Programme- PPECF - COMIFAC (through KfW) will be holding an "INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOP - YEAR 1 REPORT  OF PPECF" in CONGO,  in Brazzaville on January 14, 2014, in room 315 of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation from 8.30a.m.


The overall objective of the workshop is to reintroduce the Promotion of Certified Logging Programme (PPECF) to concession holders and stakeholders concerned with sustainable forest resource management in the Congo Basin.
 

Its specific objectives are:

♦ to:recall the general objective of PPECF;

♦ Highlight its main components through completed, ongoing or upcoming interventions;

♦ find ways of enhancing communication on programme activities and seeking synergies with other interventions;

♦ establish fresh contacts in various countries and collect ideas of interventions;

♦ take stock of FSC certification in the Congo Basin in terms of strengths and weaknesses and short and medium term prospects, in light of progress with the FLEGT process, established under the VPA and the new EU Timber Regulations.

Remember:

The "Promotion of certified logging» Programme - PPECF - COMIFAC (through KfW ) aims to increase certified forest surface areas in the Congo Basin so as to enhance forest protection and sustainable use of forest resources.

♦ The subregional programme which has been operational for a year, has conducted an array of certification-fostering interventions, notably by;

♦ providing direct assistance to companies through training and support activities;

♦ promoting a more certification-friendly regulatory framework;

♦ contributing to the development of "FSC" procedural and methodological tools suited to the companies’ operating framework;

♦ fostering training of independent auditors and building capacities of company development units;

♦ contributing to the integration of a group of skilled players (conservation NGOs specialized consulting firms, etc. . .) to provide continuous support to logging companies committed to sustainable management.
