Biodiversity and Poverty Alleviation- Panafrican Conference (Libreville)

From 6-8 September 2010, Gabon and the Secretariat of CBD will host, in partnership with the African Union,African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN), the regional economic commission, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the International Union for Nature Conservation (IUCN), the First African High-Level Conference on :

 

"Biodiversity and Poverty Alleviation : Opportunities For Africa ? "

 

 

This pan-african conference will allow to study the adoption of relevant activities for capitalizing biodiversity, eco-system services and renewable resources as factors contributing to economic growth and poverty alleviation.  

 

The conference will also represent a unique opportunity for Africa states to prepare the propositions and positions for the ligh-level segment of the 65th General Assembly Session in New York on September 22 2010, focusing for the first time on biodiversity.  In addition, Africa will be able to coordinate its position with regards to the upcoming COP 10 of UN CBD, in Nagoya, Japan  (October 18 to 29, 2010)
