CBFP’s Facilitation confirms the venue of the 6th plenary assembly of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership, from November 11 to 12, 2009 at the Palais de Congrès in Yaoundé (Cameroon). "We look forward to bringing together about 300 participants from various background for a meeting that shall combine time for informal exchange and structured encounters for in-depth discussions on a number of recent hot topics. "

During the information forum « Partnership Fair /Salon du Partenariat », scheduled for the morning session on November 11th at the Palais du Congrès, CBFP partners will present posters and other information material about their programs. All partners who would like to participate in the partnership fair are asked to contact the Facilitation. The plenary sessions, with the participation of the COMIFAC Ministers and other high-segment invitees, will be dedicated to the presentation and discussion of general reports on COMIFAC, CBFP and the “State of the Forests 2008”. The grand CBFP cocktail-dinner at the Yaoundé Hilton Hotel will close this first day of the plenary meeting in a festive setting and will offer further opportunities to pronounce toasts and inspiring pep-talks. The second day’s thematic workshops will focus on COMIFAC’s institutional reinforcement, governance and framework conditions in the countries of the Congo Basin, the implementation of the COMIFAC Regional Strategy (Plan de Convergence) and major forest-related international conventions as well as those pertaining to the environment. We will also concentrate on the nexus between conservation and sustainable use of forests by putting forward the example of the Parc Trinational de la Sangha.

Beyond the program for the meeting as such, the Facilitation and the Ministry of Forests and Fauna of Cameroon would like to propose to take participants on a guided to of either a managed forest concession (two days, 13-14 November) or to the gorilla sanctuary in the National Parc of Mfou (one day, 13 November). These field visits are intended to provide first-hand experience of the two forest management schemes promoted by CBFP in the countries of the Congo Basin.
