Save the Date: Consultation meeting of EU CBFP Facilitation and Civil Society Organizations - May 10, 2016 from 9:00 to 11:30 at Hotel Afrikana, Kinshasa, DRC

The European Union has agreed to take over the Facilitation of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP) for the period 2016-2017, and will be providing facilitation in conjunction with COMIFAC.
I am hereby delighted to invite you to a consultation meeting of the EU CBFP Facilitation and civil society organizations on Tuesday, 10 May 2016 from 9:00 to 11:30 at Hotel Afrkana, Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The consultation meeting will be held on the margins of the extraordinary session of the COMIFAC Council of Ministers and in tandem with the preparatory segment of experts to the Council of Ministers. It will gather representatives of civil society organizations including CEFDHAC (Forum and networks), RECEIAC, REFACOF, CSOs of thematic platforms (REDD, FLEGT) and the "community rights network". Thus, it will serve as an opportunity to jointly review all relevant points prior to the 16th general CBFP meeting due to hold in the fall of 2016.
A more specific objective of the Kinshasa meeting will be joint discussions on engagement of civil society organizations within CBFP and partners' programs and projects as well as their influence on sub-regional political processes in the forestry and environment sector. Other topics to be considered include the value added at regional level, CBFP's evolution, its structure and governance body, CBFP membership, coordination of actions/interventions, creating a conducive environment within the CBFP for effective coordination of actions/interventions and greater efficiency of outcomes, the 2016-2017 roadmap of the EU CBFP Facilitation.
The consultation meeting is expected to develop a vision and common positions on the participation of civil society organizations, and the institutional framework for their representativeness.
The positions could be incorporated in the agenda of the 16th Meeting of CBFP partners.
The EU CBFP Facilitation Team will provide practical information on the event, as well as an agenda and corresponding documents as soon as possible.
