FAO: 17th Session of the African Forestry and Wildlife Commission and 1st African Forestry and Wildlife Week

African Forestry and Wildlife Commission - 17th Session and 1st African Forestry and WIldlife Week

22 February 2010 - 26 February 2010

Venue: 'Palais du Parlement'

Brazzaville, Republic of Congo

The seventeenth session of the African Forestry and Wildlife Commission (AFWC17) and the first African Forestry and Wildlife Week (AFWW1) share one theme: "African Forests and Wildlife: Response to the Challenges of Sustainable livelihood Systems". This theme seeks to contextualize the important contribution of forests and wildlife to reducing poverty, hunger and malnutrition in Africa.

Renowned individuals from the public and private sectors and the academia will deliver keynote addresses with varying emphasis on the social, economic and environmental values of forests and wildlife and the need for their sustainable management. Around 400 participants are expected to participate in the week's events.

Created in 1959, the African Forestry Wildlife Commission (AFWC) is one of six Regional Forestry Commissions established by FAO to provide a policy and technical forum for countries to discuss and address forest issues on a regional basis. It meets every two years.

Upcoming Events

Currently there are no events.

This calendar is based on information provided by COMIFAC and the Franco-German support office is considered a complementary event schedule to the official calendar posted on COMIFAC's website. (http://www.comifac.org/events). It offers a broad overview of international and regional events that are directly linked to CBFP's objectives: major conferences and meetings, workshops and training sessions and other activities scheduled by CBFP Facilitation and its member organisations.

Our choice is by no means exhaustive and depends largely on our partners' notice. Every partner organisation is thus welcome to contribute to a rich variety of posted events and to share its schedule with CBFP's Facilitation and the other members! We may also, upon request, forward your input to the COMIFAC webmaster.
